Clean Organically with Essential Oils

At RainShadow Labs, one of our favorite ways to use Essential Oils is to clean our homes.  The volatile molecules in essential oils give them super potent antibacterial, antiviral and antiseptic properties.  There s no microorganism that can stand in the way of a pure-grade essential oil, like the one s we offer at RSL!  The best part is, cleaning with Essential Oils makes your home smell great and is completely non-toxic!

An effective, great smelling Essential Oil Home Cleaner is so easy to make.  In a spray bottle mix ¼ cup of distilled white vinegar, 4 cups of water and 10 drops of essential oil.  Use this blend to mop the floors, clean glass and windows and wipe down furniture.  If you like a very clean scent, your best essential oils will be Lemon Essential Oil or Spruce.  For a more warm, and cozy feel we suggest using Clove Essential Oil or our Thieves Blend.  If you like floral fragrance, Lavender Essential Oil is wonderful.

When it comes to disinfecting your bathroom, it can seem like you have to douse the whole place with bleach and Ajax for it to get clean.  But there is actually a more effective and easy solution that smells good and doesn t pour toxins into your lungs:  Tea Tree Oil!  Tea Tree Oil is so powerfully antibacterial, antifungal and antiseptic that practically nothing can stop it!

To clean your icky bathroom using Tea Tree Oil, combine ½ cup of baking soda, ½ cup of dish soap, 3 tablespoons of coarse grain salt, 25 drops of Tea Tree Oil and scrub away! If your shower or toilet is particularly scummy, let the mixture sit for a little before rinsing.

If you anyone in your house is allergic to dust mites, using essential oil in your laundry is a great way to relieve their allergies.  Eucalyptus Oil has been shown to kill dust mites, so add 25 drops to your detergent when you want clean bedding.   To add a bit of fragrance to your wash, make your own dryer sheets using Essential Oils! You can do this by wetting a clean washcloth, adding 10 drops of your favorite oil and placing it in the dryer with your clothes.  Your laundry will smell intoxicating when it comes out!  We like using Clary Sage Essential Oil, Lavender, Bergamot and Geranium.

Using Essential Oils to clean your home smells great, truly sanitizes, and creates an uplifted quality that comes when you stop using toxic cleansers.  It s a hard habit to break, since most traditional cleansers are very effective.  But the energetic difference you will feel when you start using Essential Oils will be palpable.  When you get into that groove, you ll never go back!
