In todays economy it is very easy to have anxiety and nervousness.  It is stressful having to worry about paying bills and finding jobs.  If ones anxiety is severe and they need help, they probably wont have enough money to pay doctors and prescriptions for relief.  There is a cheaper and more natural way of relief through aromatherapy with essential oils.

Effects of anxiety and stress may only feel like mental ones, but there are physical ones as well.  Some physical symptoms include rapid breathing, increased heart rate, and nausea.  Mental symptoms include dread, fear, and worry.  These essential oils will help diminish or alleviate both mental and physical effects of anxiety: patchouli, lavender, roman chamomile, ylang ylang, and clary sage.

Patchouli is a member of the mint family and has a warm earthy aroma.  This fragrance has a calming effect to soothe the soul from the stresses of every day life.  Patchouli helps the nervous system through reducing tension, anxiety, and insomnia.  It is also used as an anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, antimicrobial, antiviral, aphrodisiac, astringent, and tonic agent.

Out of all the essential oils, lavender is the most versatile and widely known oil.  Lavender is from the Roman word to wash because the Romans added the herb to their bath water for the perfume and therapeutic abilities.  Lavender specifically helps to reduce anxiety, stress, and promotes sleep.

Roman chamomile oil is one of he oldest known oils used in Egypt and the Mediterranean countries.  This oils fragrance has been described as apples and straw.  The purpose of this oil is to relax the nervous system.  It also helps digestive problems like colic, gas, pains, and even ulcers that come from anxiety.  Roman chamomile is so effective that it was put into the story line of Peter Rabbit after his stressful day in Mr. MacGregors garden.

Ylang ylang is often used as a cheaper substitute to jasmine.  It is also used as an aphrodisiac.  In Indonesia they spread the sweet and exotic floral pedals across the beds of newly wed couples.  Ylang ylang is also great for anxiety even as severe as panic attacks.  It also helps to reduce rapid heartbeats, high blood pressure, and frigidity.

Clary sages aroma is fruity, floral, and earthy.  Some of its many uses are to help calm the nervous system in times of depression, insomnia, stress, and deep tension.  There are some records that show it aids in relaxing the spasms of asthma.

Using essential oils to relieve anxiety has been around for centuries and has proven that it works.  One could even make a concoction of oils to enhance their effect.  Essential oils work to reduce the effects of anxiety and are much cheaper than a prescription.
