Essential Oils for Skin Care

Finding the right balance of skin care products can be very difficult. Many products contain harsh chemicals that can make your skin too dry, too oily, or damage it in other ways. Using essential oils for skin care can help balance your skin naturally and give you an even, healthy complexion.

Different essential oils can benefit your skin in different ways. Just like our skin comes in a variety of types, there are a variety of essential oils available to help nourish skin. Lavender, chamomile, and rosewood are useful for all skin types, but branching out into other essential oils can help treat a myriad of skin problems.

Acne: Tea tree, basil, thyme, and grapefruit are just a few of the essential oils that can help to clear up acne. They are used in many popular commercial brands of acne washes, but they can be even more effective in their pure form. In addition, lemon grass and peppermint can help with blackheads.

Chapped or dry skin: Lavender, sandalwood, and vetiver can help rehydrate dry skin. Roman and German chamomile are good solutions to these problems as well. For severe dry skin, like eczema, calendula and cranberry seed oil work wonders.

Cleansing: Sweet basil, lemon, lemongrass, and peppermint are all good essential oils for cleansing. Grapefruit, yarrow, rosemary, and lime have the additional benefit of being astringents, which means they help tighten and protect the skin.

Anti-aging: Carrot seed, sage, lavender, and rose hip extract all have anti-aging effects including wrinkle reduction and smoothing of age spots.

Other problems: To relieve itching, try using jasmine or witch hazel. For inflammation, apply carrot seed oil or chamomile. Eucalyptus, rosemary and tea tree can all fight infection.

A quick glance at the use of essential oils in skin care shows that many essential oils have more than one use and can address more than one skin care concern at once. They are perfect for those with sensitive skin, especially chamomile, jasmine, and rosewood. Caring for your skin can be a gentler, more natural process with the use of essential oils.
