Facial Scrubs

Your skin is constantly bombarded with debris and pollutants from the world around us. Pollution, detergents, make-up and a thousand other things can build up in your skin and cause it to look dull. Exfoliating on a regular basis is a great way to remove dirt and dead skin cells and reveal the healthy, younger looking skin underneath. Exfoliating also helps to increase circulation, tighten the skin, and fight aging.

Exfoliating is not something that you should do every day, as this could cause more damage to the skin than it fixes. You should exfoliate your skin about once a week using a facial scrub (every two weeks for those with sensitive skin). Apply a facial scrub to your entire face and massage it in gently for a couple of minutes before rinsing it off.

Commercial facial scrubs can be expensive, but there are several natural recipes that can be made at home for just a few cents. Adding essential oils to your facial scrub will give added nutrients, healing and anti-aging benefits to your skin. There are many, many natural recipes available online and in books for making your own facial scrubs at home. One that is very simple and contains ingredients that you probably already have at home is:

  • 2-3 tsp. raw oats, finely ground
  • ¼ tsp. apple cider vinegar
  • 1 drop tea tree oil
  • Add honey until you reach the desired texture

Apply this mixture all over your face using circular, massaging motions. Leave it on for 15 minutes, then rinse it off with warm water.

This is just one example of a simple facial scrub. Other essential oils added to various ingredients will have different benefits to your skin, so find one that works best for you. Using natural ingredients, including essential oils, will save you money and prevent your skin from absorbing harmful chemicals and toxins that are present in some commercial facial scrubs. You can also purchase facial scrubs made from natural ingredients.
