Winter Skin Care

Our skin faces a unique set of challenges in the winter. Running the heater, wearing heavier fabrics, and a lack of time in the sun can all contribute to winter skin problems. All of these problems can be addressed by using essential oils to care for your skin when the weather turns chilly.

If you find that your skin is dry and flaky in some spots but overly oily in others, you may want to consider using a balancing cream to bring it back into harmony. Creams containing geranium or lavender oil can have a balancing effect on the skin and help smooth out any minor problems.

For skin that's severely dry, there are other options that can add extra moisture to the skin. Chamomile, tea tree, and sandalwood are just a few of the essential oils that are very good for addressing severely dry skin. Olive oil applied directly to cracked areas can moisturize quickly and help the skin heal.

Avocado oil is ideal for replacing some of the nutrients your skin may be lacking in the winter. Borage and rosewood oils also contain vital nutrients that can be absorbed by the skin. Being cooped up inside because of cold weather can have a negative effect on skin, but using these nourishing essential oils will help replace moisture and nutrients.

Making some changes to your skincare regimen for the winter can help you to avoid getting dry skin in the first place. Avoid using skin care products that contain alcohol. Be sure to drink plenty of water and eat a well-balanced, vitamin-rich diet. When the air is dry, run a humidifier to add moisture in your home. Combining these practices with using your favorite essential oils will help you keep your skin looking beautiful all winter long.
