Exfoliation is one of the most important practices we can adopt in order to keep our skin healthy, happy, and glowing. It increases product penetration, helps to speed cell turnover, and can even aid in the reduction and potential elimination of wrinkles and fine lines. Yes, exfoliation is a very good thing. And just as regularly exfoliating is an easy way to keep your face radiant, making your own face scrub at home is an easy way to tailor your scrub to the specific needs of your own skin and allows you to experiment with different ingredient combinations to come up with the perfect scrub for you. Following are some basic components for a successful at-home scrub experience from a private label skincare perspective.
A scrub wouldn t be a scrub without something scrub-y, and there are plenty of exfoliating agents to choose from. Raw sugar is particularly nice because it gets the job done without being too harsh on the skin, and it easily dissolves as you wash it away. Another great exfoliating agent to use is ground up olive seeds, as they provide a satisfying experience without being overly scratchy. It is also worth noting that raw and organic honey contains many naturally occurring enzymes that gently exfoliate the skin as well, and it doubles as a light moisturizing agent.
The next thing to consider is the base of your scrub, and while many people think they need to have some kind of soap base, this isn t actually true. When making your own scrub at home, or formulating one for your private label skincare line, don t worry about soap, and instead use a balancing carrier oil such as Jojoba. Jojoba is light, soaks into your skin easily, and teaches your skin to produce just the right amount of oil. You could also use a carrier oil such as Rosehip Seed, as it also does not leave a greasy residue on the skin and delivers plenty of anti aging antioxidants as well.
From here, you can add a few drops of an essential oil such as Peppermint, Rose, or Frankincense to enhance the therapeutic quality of your scrub. Some people even like to mix in some Greek yogurt because it provides the skin with a bit of Lactic Acid, which is a skin tightening, brightening, and gently exfoliating substance. If you have a private label skincare line, you can cut right to the chase and add plain Lactic Acid to your scrub instead. Whatever you decide, have fun, play around, and don t be afraid to experiment.
