One of the most enjoyable ways to use and benefit from essential oils is to get them out into your air. And two of the most popular ways to do that are to diffuse them or to use some kind of spray. Both methods are great and have their pros and cons like everything else. And depending on a few different factors, you might find that you prefer one over the other. So what are those factors, and what are the pros and cons of each essential oil dispersing method?
One of the biggest pros that come with choosing to diffuse your essential oils is that you can simply set it and forget it. Whereas a room spray requires you to continually spray in order to keep the aroma fresh and new, a diffuser can continue to diffuse for hours at a time, ensuring that the room stays full of essential oil particles. This doesn t mean that if you use a diffuser the smell will get too strong. On the contrary, because a diffuser disperses a small and controlled amount of essential oils into the air over a long period of time, your aroma of choice stays constant without becoming overwhelming.
Of the more fun pros of using a room spray is that you can spray it directly onto things like pillows and clothing. This makes it great for crafting your own DIY specialty blends for different things like falling asleep or enhancing concentration. This also makes it an extra kid friendly essential oil activity because they can spray it on their own pillows, clothing, stuffed animals, etc. while learning about essential oils and the different things you can do with them. A con of using a diffuser is that it needs water in order to disperse the essential oil particles out into the air. If your home already has a moisture, humidity or mold problem, then you might want to stay away from using a diffuser and opt for a nebulizer instead since it requires no added liquid at all. If you are okay with having to manually spray and reapply your essential oil scent, then go ahead and use a room spray that is witch hazel based instead of water.
When all else fails, you can have both options at your disposal. A quick spritz of your essential oil spray might be just what you need to help your little one fall asleep or to make your closet smell fresh. Or, you might find you want your favorite scent percolating throughout your house while you relax or get things done. Both options are great, easy and fun.
