Peppermint essential oil can be used to repel fleas from your pet and home because of the menthol found in the Peppermint. You can also use clove, lavender, Rosemary, Eucalyptus and Citronella essential oils. Better yet, you can make a blend of some or all of the above mentioned oils and spray them on your pet s coat and around your house to kill and prevent the growth of a flea infestation.
To avoid any potential sensitivities and to make sure that the essential oils are applied over a wide range, dilute the oils in water. Simply start with 20 drops of essential oil to 1 pint of water. You can even have fun and get creative, tailoring the blend to your smell preferences so that your flea spray doubles as a room freshener!
It s important to note that, depending on the strength of your blend and the frequency with which your own dog is exposed to other dogs who might be carrying fleas, you will want to reapply it often. But don t let that deter you! The cost, lack of toxic chemicals and pleasant aroma- not to mention the lack of fleas- are worth the small amount of extra applications it might take. As a bonus, Fido will smell good too!
Essential oils are so useful, and it s one of the reasons they are so popular in the private label skincare world. And now, you can use them to help your pet stay free of fleas. Enjoy your very own custom essential oil based flea repellant and use it around your house, on your bedding and furniture, and of course on your dog. You may even find that you like to spray yourself too. Whatever blend you decide upon, or even if you do a new one every time, you can relax knowing that your home, and pup, are free of fleas.
